I’m not one who’s big on self praise. However, I am willing to crown myself Queen of the Long Weekend Vacation. Because of my schedule, sometimes a long weekend is all I can cram in to get my travel fix. And I’m ok with that.

We all need a little break sometimes, and a three or four day trip is usually all you need. With a little effort, any city could be a long weekend trip, however some are definitely better than others. I’ve decided to put together a list of my favorite long-weekend cities in the United States. Feel free to add your own in the comments below!

1. Charlotte, NC

Beautiful weather, plenty of things to do and easy access by air- what more could you ask for? Charlotte is a beautiful city with lots of activities to keep anyone busy. For those with a sense of adventure, check out the U.S. National Whitewater Center and try your hand at navigating the rapids. Sports fan? Check out the Charlotte Knights, a minor league baseball team that plays at BB&T Ballpark. Looking for a laugh? Those with a sense of humor check out the Funny Bus- think a BYOB city tour with a hilarious, PG-13 twist. Bonus- Charlotte is one of the busiest airports in the US making it easier to score a cheap flight! I use Skyscanner quite a bit for my flight deals.

2. Austin, TX

Oh Austin, where do I even begin. Live music capital of the south, Austin never disappoints in the entertainment department. Add with the delicious food, cold craft beers and the laid back southern charm and you have yourself a winner. Start your day by checking out the massive but beautiful Texas State Capitol. Eat your way through Austin’s best BBQ. Check out the bats (yes bats) on the South Congress bridge. Then end the night on a high note by grabbing a drink or two on Dirty Sixth Street.

3. Nashville, TN

You can’t mention music without talking about Nashville. From the Grand Ole Opry and the Country Music Hall of Fame to the live music everywhere you go, Nashville is a country music lovers paradise. Looking for a break from the music? Check out a bit of history at the home of Andrew Jackson, the Hermitage. Continue your house tour with a Homes of the Stars Tour- Keith Urban, Kelly Clarkson, Jake Owen and Miranda Lambert all make their homes in Nashville.

4. New Orleans, LA

When I went to New Orleans this past February I had absolutely no idea what to even expect. Good thing my trip exceeded my expectations. New Orleans is just fun. Take a walk down the famous Bourbon Street- you’ll be amazed at the things you see. Stroll through the Garden District and check out the beautiful southern mansions. And whatever you do, don’t forget Cafe du Monde for the best beignets around. Bonus- Click here to get up to 50% off New Orleans attractions! Woohoo!

5. Asheville, NC

Yep, we’re going back to North Carolina for a minute or two. Asheville, NC is a pretty awesome place. I have spent several long weekends here and have yet to run out of things to do. Asheville reminds me a little of Austin, tons of trendy places to eat and to grab a local beer. And did I mention that it’s dog friendly?? The Biltmore Estate, the largest residence in the United States, is also located in Asheville. This mammoth mansion is now open to the public for tours. They also have shopping, restaurants and a winery on property.

6. Chicago, IL

Hooray for another easy to get to city! Chicago O’Hare is another one of the busiest airports in the US making it pretty easy to score a great flight. Last time I was in Chicago, we had so many things to do that our entire trip flew by in a blur. Check out one of the great museums like the Art Institute of Chicago. Hang out at Shedd Aquarium, one of the world’s biggest aquariums, for the day. Snag tickets to a show in the Theater District. Or maybe grab a view from one of the observation decks in the city. If you’re trying to get the most bang for your buck, consider the Chicago City Pass– you can save 50% on Chicago’s top attractions!

7. Scottsdale, AZ

If sunshine and low humidity (hello great hair day!) are musts for your vacation, check out Scottsdale, AZ. Located adjacent to Phoenix, Scottsdale is relatively easy to access. Last time I was in Scottsdale, we had a blast. We went horseback riding which was so much fun plus gave us some pretty stunning views. For a fun evening, head into Old Town Scottsdale and find one of the many patios or rooftop decks to have yourself a hard earned drink. There’s also plenty of shopping to be found around this area as well. Still looking for an adventure? Sedona is only a scenic 2 hour drive away.

Trust me- I know there’s hundreds of more places that are perfect for long weekend trips. Please feel free to share your favorites in the comments below!
