Hello Fuerteventura! After waiting three long years, we finally got to go on our Fuerteventura trip! Sam and I got married during COVID and unfortunately had to postpone our honeymoon trip. The silver lining is we got to take my parents with us to Fuerteventura which was a ton of fun. With its beautiful beaches, vibrant culture, and exciting adventures, there’s something for everyone here. Let’s dive into everything you need to know for an amazing trip to Fuerteventura.

Getting to Fuerteventura

Getting to Fuerteventura is a breeze. You can fly directly into Fuerteventura Airport (FUE) from major European cities. We spent a few days in Barcelona and then flew to FUE from there. It was about a 3 hour flight. Once you land, you can rent a car or hop on public transportation to start exploring. If you’re coming from a neighboring island like Lanzarote, ferries offer a scenic and enjoyable ride.

Best Time to Visit

Fuerteventura is a year-round destination, thanks to its subtropical climate. But the best times to visit are from March to May and September to November. During these months, the weather is perfect—not too hot, not too cold—and there are fewer tourists around. We went in September and the weather was absolutely perfect.

6. Entallada Lighthouse

The Entallada Lighthouse is situated on a cliff giving stunning views of the ocean and Fuerteventura itself. The Lighthouse is the closest point on the island to Africa, and sometimes on clear days you can see the African coast. Getting here is not for the faint of heart. I’m so lucky my dad was driving because there is no way I would have made it up there by myself. Picture a dirt road, about one car wide. Now picture driving up the side of a steep cliff around hairpin turns with no guardrails. If you want the full visualization you can picture me crying in the corner of the car. 😅 Jokes aside, if you’re afraid of heights, like me, I would sit this one out.

7. Ajuy Caves

Discover the dramatic Ajuy Caves on the west coast. With a striking black sand beach and ancient sea-carved caves, this spot offers a fascinating glimpse into the island’s geological history.

8. Mirador De Vallebron

Mirador De Vallebron is a scenic overlook. Make a detour here to see a beautiful view of the landscape of Fuerteventura.
