a girl enjoying float trip in a river

Planning a float day trip is a fantastic way to enjoy the great outdoors, whether you’re drifting down a peaceful river or navigating mild rapids. To ensure you have a safe, enjoyable, and stress-free experience, it’s crucial to pack the right gear. This list includes my float trip essentials- including float trip food!

Clothing Essentials

1. Quick-Dry Clothing:

  • Swimsuits: Comfortable and secure swimsuit for paddling and swimming.
  • Rash Guard or Quick-Dry Shirt: Protects from the sun and dries quickly.
  • Quick-Dry Shorts: Comfortable for sitting in the raft or tube.
  • Cover Up: Or something to wear once you get out of the water

2. Footwear:

  • Water Shoes or Sandals: Sturdy, non-slip shoes that protect your feet. Nobody likes to touch the bottom with their bare feet. Or worse, cut their feet on the bottom.
  • Dry Shoes: A pair of comfortable shoes for after the float.

3. Accessories:

  • Hat or Cap: To protect your face from the sun. I forgot a hat and had major regrets.
  • Bandana or Buff: Useful for sun protection or keeping hair back.
  • Waterproof Dry Bags: Essential to keep all of your supplies dry. I like these bags.

Gear and Equipment

1. Raft or Tube:

  • Ensure it’s in good condition and suitable for the type of water you’ll be on. These tubes are perfect for river floating.

2. Float Pump:

  • This float pump plugs into the car and allows you to inflate rafts with ease.

3. Waterproof Phone Case:

  • To protect your phone from water damage.

  • High SPF to protect your skin from sunburn.

2. Bug Spray:

  • To keep mosquitoes and other insects at bay.

3. Lip Balm:

  • With SPF to protect your lips.

4. Towel:

5. Sunglasses

  • I pack a cheap pair just in case I lose them in the water.

Snacks and Hydration
